New to Ultramarines & wondering about Contrast

So ive got a small UM starter force, and my first plan was Grey Seer base, then the new UM contrast paint, but after 2 models done as testers, the contrast paint is VERY dark, as others have said its nearer Crimson Fist colour !
So would you folks suggest stripping those two models, and just going Macragge spray base then layers etc, or has anyone had good success using the contrast UM ?
