I never really knew anyone growing up that was interested in Ultraman (moved from Japan to US early in childhood) and I only ever had the Ultraman Cosmos: First Contact on VHS along with a bunch of the figure toys. I did see some of the classic TV series of the original Ultraman and Seven that my mom grew up with, but Cosmos was the only one I had an actual copy of to watch repeatedly. Haven't given it much thought since, but recently I randomly ran into someone who was familiar with the series and when I mentioned Cosmos they walked off without a word.
Is there some context behind the Cosmos series that I don't know about to warrant it being a black sheep in the flock? It's made me curious if I should refrain from telling others that Cosmos is my favorite Ultraman.
