Sleeping bag decisions for Scottish winter
Post Body

Hello all

I have been bikepackjng around the Scottish Highlands for the past month, and I am currently staying a for a few weeks north of inverness. The sleeping bag I have been using is a cheapo synthetic comfort 11°c which has been ok provided I wear my insulated jacket and wool baselayers.

I am looking for a new bag to extend my trip into the winter. I have looked at a number of bags.

My main issue is I am worried about keeping down dry. My tent is a Vango banshee that pitches in one rain fly and inner. However after a night of rain and packing the tent down in the rain the next night the inside is invariably wet. Obviously my bag and mat (big Agnes q core ultra insulated) are dry however I worry that with a damp tent floor the down will lose warmth over many days of rain without opportunity to dry.

I have looked at synthetic however to get something rated to ~-5, I sleep warm, it's going to be hugely bulky 25*30cm compressed.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I basically want the warmth and packability of down with water resistance of synthetic obviously a pipe dream.

Thanks
