Hey guys and gals,
I was wondering if anyone has experience to chime in on whether setting up the HMG Ultamid 2 is realistic along the entirety of the AT?
Myself and my wife are based in the UK and are targeting the AT as our first US thru-hike. We had the zpacks duplex freestanding kit shipped over and clocked up around 500 miles. Great tent, terrible condensation with two squeezed in.
So we've been looking at our options for a lightweight, two walled tent. Freestanding would be nice but maybe we should just put on our big pants.
The Nemo hornet elite and some of the BA tents look good, but most offer even less internal space than the duplex. I also noticed BA don't explicitly detail the 'D' rating of nylon used - that doesn't sit well with me.
So then we come to the HMG, ticks a lot of boxes as a two person tent but having read that camping is restricted to certain sites/around shelters on the AT, I worry we might find ourselves struggling to find a pitch.
Input, thoughts and other tent recommendations gratefully received!
Thanks.
