Is a pack really the last piece of gear you should worry about dropping weight on?
Post Body

I've seen this exact thing said here a couple times and am wondering how true it is. I plan to do the CO trail this summer and am trying to get my weight down, way down preferably.

My current weight looks about like this:

Sleeping bag: 3lbs

Hammock & Tarp: 3.5lbs

Water Filter:1lb

Full Water Bladder: 8lbs or so

Pack (Kelty 80l 5500): 5lbs

This is already 20lbs and obviously there will be other small pieces of gear food but these are pretty much the main things. Do the fine people here at UL think it would be worth getting a new pack (was thinking the circuit or a zpack) or should I focus on lightening my gear first? If the latter, what's the best way to go about that? Maybe swap my bag for a revelation quilt? Find a lighter hammock suspension system?

Thanks in advance for your help, ya'll are awesome.
