I'm personally not a fan of them but my son is 4 years old and only 3.5 feet tall so it's a bit of a waste to use a full length pad.
The last time I looked he was an infant and we tried an Uberlite (not surprised those aren't offered anymore) and ended up getting him a short length prolite. We may be using the prolite for his sister now (or hopefully a cut down ccf pad for her instead) and he's not a fan of the prolite any more. I think he prefers a warmer pad.
He has been using our old (10 years) xlite women's regular pad and likes that. But it's way too long for him. I'm thinking maybe I can save some weight and free up space in the tent.
I've been looking around and can only find a prolite in a short and the new xlite NXT in a short length. But the prolite (which we already have) is heavier than our full length women's xlite. And the new xlite NXT short on the thermarest website is listed the same weight (330 gm) as our old full length women's xlite that we already have (336 gm). I'm sure there are some differences that are are reasons for this but I wouldn't save any weight buying the new short version.
Is there anything else out there that's a short length, inflatable pad with a R value >3?
Additionally, if there's anything relatively short and under 350 gm with baffles that run lengthwise that might help him stay on the pad better as well.
I'd like to avoid modifying our xlites by shortening them if I can - we still use those on solo trips sometimes.
I've been looking around at companies other than thermarest and just don't know if I'm missing something. Any leads would be appreciated!
