Recently, I asked about stove options on a flight with no shopping option. I was wrong. There was a store at trailhead but it only stocked the larger green propane cylinders and firestarter fluid for car campers. No esbit, no heet, no isobutane. Sheesh. Fortunately, I brought a Toaks gasifier as backup to my BRS and soda stove.
It was raining when I arrived, but I had cheated by bringing enough dry workshop wood for a couple of burns. Not as much as you would think - 80 grams per boil. The park had a free covered woodpile with splitter so I split enough for four more burns. Yes, heavier than a canister but not terrible. 6 thumb sized sticks with a vaseline soaked cotton ball started reliably with minimal fuss. A fire straw came in handy for keeping the flame going if it slowed. 2 cups of hot water in 10 minutes. True, nowhere near as convenient as a canister, but the effort wasn't awful. Might have been more of a hassle if I scrounged wood each day in that damp forest. No worries about fire bans in this place at this time - rained heavily for 24 hours solid on my last day.
Admittedly, two big downsides. Lots of soot - avoided touching the black parts plus kept the stove and pot in a plastic bag. Didn't even bother to wash the outside of the pot. Tricky to use in a downpour.
