How to pitch tarp without trees or poles?

My former attempts have been stacking rocks as high as I can, which sort-of works... At best results in a low pitch, at worst there's no rocks... And the UK has no bloody trees; if it did I'd hang my hammock... Any suggestions welcome!
Edit: A few people missing the point of posting in ultralight, lol. Why would you bring trekking poles if you don't use them for walking...
