I'm really lazy when it comes to setting up my shelter. Like really, really lazy. But I also have a bunch of different combinations of my tarps and bivies, which means the number of tie-outs I'm bringing and where they go is constantly changing. Even in a single trip I may pitch my flat tarp a few different ways, and I sometimes will take it with me on day hikes so I can laze about somewhere beautiful for a while. I have two tarps (a Wolf Solo and a 1p Cirriform) and 3 bivies (an S2S nano net, a Borah wind bivy, and a Yama Y-zip bug bivy), meaning a lot of different combinations of tie-outs and ways to connect the bivy to the tarp.
I've found that the easiest and laziest way to quickly swap locations/lengths of guylines is to pair Zpack's micro-V linelocs with loop (with 1.2mm guyline) with a mini-biner run through the loop on one and and through the tie-out on the other.
I've never tested mini-biner connection in high winds, so I went googling, and it looks like to be on the safe side you would need something that can withstand around 40lbs of force. Luckily, a fine gentleman and scholar on /r/UltralightCanada made this nice little comparison post a while back.
I've used the mitten hooks and while they do work they are significantly more faffy, and they also twist the fabric in a way that I would think would make the fabric prone to rip (or at least to rub and eventually fail), so Dutchware's mitten hooks are out. The obvious choice beyond that is the S2S aluminum mini-biner (2.8g) and Dutchware's Ti ridgeline biner (2.5g). I prefer the shape on the S2S but it's also overkill (and Dutchware's is super overkill based on the r/ulcanada post).
So, anyone know of a product (doesn't have to be a mini-biner, can just be a dual hook setup) that can beat out 2.8g while surviving up to 40lbs of force?
Also, just to be clear, I realize the weight differences are trivial, but if no one makes absurd gram-weenie posts then the Flextail pump Helinox crowd will have truly won.
[EDIT: Leaving this up here as a resource, but /u/skisnbikes has weighed in and barring a miracle it looks like the S2S biners are the way to go, at least for now.]
