Ultralight noob shakedown - 3 season UK
Post Body

Location/temp range/specific trip description: 2-3 day trips across the UK in 3 season conditions. 0*c to 25*c. Conditions can be unpredictable, often risking sunburn and getting drenched in the same trip. Usually active in 10-25*c, sleeping in 0-10*c.

Goal Baseweight (BPW): Ideally around 5-6kg.

Budget: Depends on what I can justify. I haven't long replaced the tent, sleeping bag and pad so unlikely to replace those. I wouldn't want to spend more than £100-200 on a single item. As a noob I suspect there's places I can save weight for relatively cheap I've overlooked. Budget of ~300 for the bag.

Non-negotiable Items: Chair. C'mon, it's only 380g and cost £20 for excellent comfort. I use the shaker to make plenny active shakes (I decant 200g into zip locks) so it's a bit of a double edged sword. I think 200g is pretty good for an excellent no-cook meal, but it does mean I have a heavier water container.

Solo or with another person?: I hike with another person. I carry water filters, he carries a stove. He has his own vessels for carrying water, although we share the big bag of water when we setup camp. I only need to tip water into dehydrated meal pouches usually, so only need a spork.

Additional Information: Realistically I'm going to replace the Atmos AG 65 soon, it's overkill as I've started to reduce my packweight (I previously used to regularly go out with 20kg total weights). It's super roomy though, so I'm able to pack without stuff sacks which saves a bit of weight. I find the mesh & frame to be incredible from a comfort POV. I'm a bit reluctant about changing to a proper ultralight pack, in case the weight savings don't translate into comfort, and there's no where I can really try these cottage bags. Thinking about an exos 48l without the brain.

Outside of the bag, I think I can probably streamline the water system but I'm not sure. I'm sure there's some toiletries I'm gonna get laughed at for bringing as well.

I usually have about 1.5l at any time. I usually have about 1.5kg for 3 days of food (cliff bars, grenade bars, some sweets, dehydrated dinners, plenny shakes etc). So add about 3kg to my base weight for total weight. I've added pole weights as very occasionally they're in my bag not on my back, but I haven't bothered to put weights for worn clothing as it'll never be in my pack and on the move.
