Long time no see /r/Ultralight
I like hiking in sandals and will rave about their benefits. They solve 2 big issues for me: wet feet, and hard heel cups irritating my haglund's deformity and by extension achilles. A big downside is not being able to do tallus or snow very well, unless you're okay smashing your raw unprotected piggies into rock and ice all day long. Also a lot are zero drop, which I've learned my feet don't love.
So when I walked into mec the other day and saw these saloman "sandals" or water shoes which basically just look like trail runners with more mesh and a soft strap heel, I wondered why I haven't really considered closed toe sandals before.
Has anyone hiked in shoes/sandals like this? What was your experience? Some other examples include keens whispers, oboz whakata, or hoka hopara.
