Anybody use a Moulder Strip WITH a water bath in Winter?
Post Body

I've got a Soto Windmaster and a 1300ml Evernew 6" wide pot. A group is going out and most are non-believers of canister stoves in cold temps. We tend to camp at 10F to 25F. If the temps are forecast any colder than 10F the trip is usually called off. I'm bringing a Whisperlite and a 2.7L pot too.

I want to bring the Soto and use a 24ga copper strip for the feedback loop, securing it with a silicone band. There are lots of discussions on BPL and this sub about Moulder Strips. I would like to see if I can rely on this when I want a lighter and more compact setup for personal use or as a backup. We bring multiple stoves in any case. I am worried that the group will be concerned about getting blown up. I'm thinking they will let me try the idea if I also put the canister in a water bath. I have an MSR bowl which fits a 227g canister.

Is there any benefit to using both techniques at the same time, other than making us feel safer? The bowl weighs 61 grams and the strip/silicone weighs 29 grams. I would rather just bring the MCS (or is it CMS?). Using both methods together is still lighter and more compact than packing a Whisperlite.

I also plan on digging out a 3 sided trough in the "table" for wind protection and putting it on a corrugated plastic disc for insulation from the snow.

Thanks for your help in advance.
