I made wooden jig to help straighten some bent 6 g titanium shepherd hook tent stakes: Video. Since the hole in the jig is perfectly straight, I noticed that when jamming in a bent tent stake it took more force. That's because the tent stake flexes to get through the hole and the flexed tension creates friction on the inner walls of the hole.
So I'm thinking that using a straight tent stake to make a straight pilot hole and then switching to a bent or slightly curved stake is the way to use these 5.9 g titanium needle shepherd hook stakes in the best way. (And the jig cleans dirt off the stakes, too!)
