Sigmoidoscopy Experiences

As part of the on-going assessment of my UC (I've been diagnosed since 2016), the next phase is a Sigmoidoscopy. I've not had one before, of course more used to colonoscopies. I've received the paperwork, the meds to take before, and it certainly seems a lot less intrusive than a colonoscopy.

Was wondering if anyone here had first hand experience of the Sigmoidoscopy, what to expect etc. I'm also told it is highly unlikely a sedation is needed, is this accurate?
