I guess my point would be that a win is a win. Especially considering that Russia doesn't value human life, even their own. If the goal is territory and resources that come with it, why would Putin care how many are lost?
It only looks humiliating from the outside. Every inch they manage to take is one more small victory.

Am I not understanding somethiing about the winter war?
Sure the Soviet casualties were very high but they changed their tactics and eventually forced the Finns to sue for peace. They ended up getting more land than their pre-war demands. How is that not a win?
If Russia manages to keep any part of Ukraine, that's a win. Regardless of how many die in the process.
