I followed this guide: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-cinnamon-desktop-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux
Weirdly enough, I never was able to get to this screen: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-cinnamon-desktop-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux
However, Cinnamon is installed and I can use it by executing "cinnamon --replace" in the terminal, but I have to keep the terminal up. I'm not entirely sure what lightdm does either, but it fails to launch when I looked at the logs because apparently some request is repeated too fast.
So how do I get Cinnamon to be my default?
