Google Fiber without their router

Post Body

Sorry if this has been answered before but I've been reading and searching for the past could days and can't find exactly the same question.

So I just got Google Fiber (2GB) but I'm using the option to "bring your own router". I have a cat6 cable going from the ONT to the Ethernet WAN post in my UDM Pro.

I realize I'm limited to 1 Gbps using the RJ45 but I'm also reading the SFP WAN doesn't train at 2.5G (Everything I've read is Unifi isn't looking to add it any time soon).

So I'm trying to figure out if I can just buy the recommended MikroTik S RJ10 transceiver and just plug the ethernet I have in the WAN currently into the transceiver and have it auto negotiate to 2.5G.

From everything I've read people are pulling the ONT out of the router, and using that, but since I don't have a Google router I'm a bit confused if this will even work. I'd also like to not buy any more equipment if I can help it.

Thanks
