Basically need a line or a starting point for this. My setup is as follows (bear mind what i have acquired has either been free or 50% or more off)
UDR => USW-Lite8 => USW-Flex => UAP-AC-PRO
=> UCKG2
I want to lower the UDRâs workload on security and have that traffic be filtered by the UCKG2 to increase UDR through put. Yes i know there will be those that will say to go fro an UDM-Pro or SE but at 320-500 without access points (need 2) it doesnât seem the most cost effective route for me.
UDR = 170, speeds at 500dn and 8-700up
USW-Flex = 45
UAP-AC = 0
UCKG2 = 80
USW-Lite8 = 110
Of the proceeding the UDM-Pro(SE) replaces UDR, USW-Lite and UCKG2 . But after that I still need 4 POE and an AP since the UDR has one. So that lands me in the SE territory at $500 $AP. That still has me at needing 140-300 more to complete the setup. I do have 2 (planning additional 2) cameras 2K which is why when i found the deal for the UCKg2 I went for it as the UDR is meant to be used with a microSD and best results is maxing out pre and post recording time frame at 10sec so detections are actually useful. This results in potential 2 weeks recording space with a 256GB card and 2 cameras. Works ok but adds more load to the UDR between Protect and security features, reducing speed.
I have seen âsolutionsâ putting the UDR as a âswitchâ with no DHCP scaling or DHCP but I see the following as issues.
Canât manage the UDR in one pane as it has a controller, canât adopt UniFi OS I donât think proper roaming between APs may occur since the UDR will be managed separately UCKG2 will still need a router to for DHCP and enabling via SSH DHCP server on it is hacky and not perm. Only UniFi routers are there current gateways and the USG is legacy and too pricy 2nd hand to justify.
Now my networking is intermediate so I am no pro. Is there not away way whereâŚ
Internet => UDR => VLAN/routing (?) => UCKG2 => FDX back to the local network
Is this not possible ?
PS the free UAP-AC-PRO (new) got me started down the rabbit hole and the single AP out performed 3 Orbi Pros (wifi5) while managing a less crowded set of channels.
