Edit: I am speaking as a customer who ordered food off the app, and now gets the food myself.
Realising how expensive they put their prices up now, especially after driving and getting food myself
Uber eats (and other equivalents) have been raising prices so much, I’ve only just realised as I’ve been driving around more and going out more. Uber eats usually adds at least 10 extra dollars, maybe even more up to 15-20 depending on how much they increase the food and the delivery fee.
Let’s say I buy 10-15 orders, and the prices are increased by 10 per order, that’s like 150 extra dollars, just on uber eats. That could cover fuel, and a few more in person orders for food.
Sure fuel does cost a bit of money, but I don’t think it’s a fair comparison. It’s cheaper long term to just get the food myself, and I enjoy driving.
Obviously a car is a big investment too, but like, I’ve got one so I may as well use it, and I enjoy using it. I understand people who don’t have cars, but it really does make a huge difference to get the food myself. Plus, it makes me feel like I’m doing something.
I’m not sure what other countries are like, but here it’s getting pretty pricey. Even just going to the shops like aldi and getting a frozen meal is more efficient. Just put it in the oven done.
I’m feeling pretty silly considering how much I’ve put into Uber eats in the past, I had Uber one at some point, and it was saying I’ve saved a lot of money, mainly due to lower fees and sometimes big discounts, however, the total just isn’t worth it.
I probably would’ve saved even more just by getting things myself.
Also some people have said things like the drivers don’t get great pay etc so I’m not supporting a system like uber eats anymore, maybe on occasion. I also don’t want to have to pay tips and be responsible for their pay, we don’t do that culture here.
Nothing against uber drivers and uber eats drivers, it’s the corporation that’s the issue. The services the drivers provide are great and convenient for all types of people. But money and prices these days…
