Brighton parking/traffic

Hello everyone,
My friends and I are planning a trip to Brighton this year. We are debating on whether we should stay at/on the mountain or in the SLC area. Is it worth the extra money to stay at the mountain so we do not have to deal with parking/traffic or have to worry about making it to the mountain if there is a storm.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
