Hi. I live in a rural area that does not get regular mail service. As a result, we have a PO Box nearby that uses our same address, just with PO Box # added. I’ve encountered a slew of issues with this. This includes: certain websites not allowing use of a PO Box for shipping address (including important things such as getting a replacement AMEX card) or instances where we don’t know which carrier will be used so we list the PO Box just to find out it’s being shipped via FedEx and it gets lost for over a month. As a result, we have largely abstained from putting the PO Box number on anything because the regulars at the post office know us and know which # we are, and it saves us from our packages otherwise getting lost if it turns out they’re coming from another shipper. There’s new management who is not happy with this accommodation so they’ve been writing “please use PO Box number” on every envelope (including my car registration which — again, was not allowed to register my car to a PO Box). Today they put up signs in the lobby and a notice in every box saying all packages and mail will be returned to sender or thrown away if no PO Box is listed. Any advice/guidance on this issue? It really sucks because I am paying $50 every 6 months for the smallest size box and not getting my mail the way I’m guessing 90% of Americans do (straight to their door) and now this added aggression. It would take me hours to try and think of every possible place that might have my address sans PO Box to try and contact them to change it before they just start throwing my mail away. Do all post offices abide by this rule? Or could I possibly find another nearby post office that lets me use an address without a box #??
