My great-great grandfather apparently didn't know who his parents were, but I found someone with his last name in my county who was from Scotland that could've been his father (my DNA is also connected to someone with the same surname in the same area in Scotland). My grandfather was burn June 9 1862, and his potential father died in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. He was mustered in Georgia on May 16, 1861 (8th infantry Co. G--he was a regimental musician). Anyway, does this timeline fit? Could he have still been in Georgia during the fall of 1861?
