Assigning case to online account

I-765 (EAD)

So I applied for renewal of EAD (I-765) and received the Form I-797C Notice of Action.

the notice mentions how to create a new account and assign the the case to the account. in my case however I would like to assign the case number to my already EXISTING account. Hiwever when I follow the steps and enter the Online Access Code then click OK. nothing happens...

I can't create a new account and associate my phone number with it as I get notification that my phone is already in use...

Has anyone had a similar case?
