I am literally so lost and confused. So in order to graduate I have to complete my final level of spanish to fulfill my Foreign Language requirement. I had to wait until this week to receive the Summer 2024 Course catalogs at community colleges.
I have spent the past 2 hours looking at all community colleges in the Southern California region for an In-person Spanish 3 course, and LITERALLY, all of them are either fully online, hybrid, Online LIVE, or not available during the summer. I am at a loss for words and completely heartbroken.
Since I transferred to USC last year, I have been tossed from advisor to advisor and each one has been telling me a new thing. I do not have the funds to afford taking a summer course at USC because of tuition and cost of living. Community college was my only option and there are NONE that offer a Spanish 3 In Person.
I am absolutely stuck and do not know what to do. I was supposed to graduate this May 2024, then it turned into August 2024 because of this spanish requirement, and now I am looking toward Fall 2024 since I have the opportunity to Study Abroad. My financial aid and scholarship only allow me to stay an additional semester and I don't know what to do. Is there any way I can bypass this in person requirement? I don't mind taking al in person class but if there are no options within my means then what am I supposed to do?
I feel like everything is going wrong in my life at the moment and this is just something else that has toppled me over. Sorry for the rant but I am very hopeless at the moment, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: Thank you guys for all your help and advice! So I looked into LACC and ELAC since they previously offered Spanish 3 in person over the summer but I looked at their catalogs for this summer and they aren’t offering it this year 🥲 Called USC transfer credit services, said they couldn’t do anything to bypass the FLAN in person requirement. They said the only way I could petition for a class is after i’ve taken it and if I take a CC class KNOWING it was online/didn’t meet reqs, there’d be a likely chance of being denied. Checked into Annenberg Drop-Ins with an advisor and after much discussion and deliberation, best option for me to graduate asap is that I’d have to sacrifice my Study Abroad opportunity and stay here an extra semester in the Fall to take Spanish 3 at USC. I plan on commuting twice a week so it won’t be too bad on my pocket. I’m bummed but also relieved I applied for financial aid before the deadline and I have enough scholarship and finaid to get me thru one more semester. Thanks again for all your help!
