Required Materials:
- iPhone Charger
- Computer
- Penn Card
- $8
- Jailbroken iPhone (2)
- Too much time on your hands
Steps:
(If you don't have AirPennNet just port forward instead of using remote.it)
- On each iPhone, install the http://limneos.net/repo/ and https://repo.packix.com sources from Cydia.
- On each iPhone, install NFCWriter XS from Cydia.
- On each iPhone, pay for a license in NFCWriter XS.
- Assign one iPhone to stay with the PennCard and be a server. The other will be an emulator which your friend will eventually use.
- On the emulator iPhone, install remote.it from the App Store.
- On the emulator iPhone, install Hestia from Cydia. Navigate to Hestia's settings in the Settings app and enable to tweak for remote.it.
- On your computer, navigate to remote.it. Create an account (not with Google) and download the desktop app.
- On the server iPhone, find your IP address in the Settings app and take note.
- In the remote.it desktop app, create a service with the "host address" of your server iPhone's IP. Set the "port" to be 10000.
- On the emulator iPhone, connect to the service you just created in remote.it. Take note of the port it assigns to you.
- On the emulator iPhone, navigate to NFCWriter XS and select Other -> Tag Client (Reader Side). Set "Server IP/Hostname" to 127.0.0.1. Set Server Port to the port remote.it just assigned to you.
- On the server iPhone, navigate to NFCWriter XS and select Other -> Tag Server (Card Side). Click "Start Tag Server". Place the iPhone on your PennCard and leave it there. Turn auto lock off in the Settings app and plug your phone in.
- Use the emulator iPhone on a PennCard reader.
How it works
The emulator iPhone forwards the reader's requests your to computer via remote.it, then to your iPhone, and then to your PennCard. It relays the responses from the PennCard in the same manner.
Remarks
While this could be used to facilitate parties in college houses, few people have jailbroken iPhones and each would need to pay $3.99 so the risk is small.
