My headcanon on the contract negotiation.

To be clear, this is just what the voice in my head tells me what it thinks is happening, and now I'm gonna tell all of you. Strap in.

So, you've got Sean O'Brien, 4th generation teamster, union leader, 33 years with the organization. My honest opinion, seems like a hell of a guy. I had the opportunity to see him speak outside of Boston last year with Bernie Sanders. I'm usually not too keen on politicians as I feel many(most) of them lack integrity. I didn't get that from Sean, or Bernie for that matter, and I hope to never hear anything of the sort.

Anyways, on the other side of the table you've got Carol and major corporation UPS. Obviously she's a known union buster, and this is important for later. Carol acquired enough capital last year alone to step down tomorrow and secure her and her family's retirement. I can't speak to the rest of her side of the table, but I imagine they could do the same.

Now, UPS has been for some time, almost completely unmatched. Nobody can step to what we do. We're the best at it, and we aim to remain the best it. We do have competition though, and though they're competition, FedEx isn't a threat, but Amazon is creeping up. UPS recognizes that Amazon has the potential to keep their momentum and possibly give UPS a good run for their money.

Amazon isn't going anywhere, and they've got momentum. Less than 30 years ago they didn't even exist and now they're one of the top five largest companies in the world and one of the reasons for their success is their unfair compensation for their employees.

Now, back to the negotiation. I believe this is a big picture moment for Sean and UPS. Sean has had a stellar career, but he isn't done. He wants to take on Amazon and unionize them. This is also in UPS's best interest. Amazon may seem unstoppable, but Sean may have what it takes to be their immovable object.

What we're seeing now is what I've been calling "the show." It's the dance where we all have to play our parts so as many eyes are watching the show as possible, because Amazon sure is, as should their employees. The longer this negotiation drags out, the more eyes the show will have on it leading up to August 1st.

Now, back to Carol, union buster. She won't last this negotiation. She will step down after the dust settles and settle into her lavish retirement, but she'll concede defeat and having been defeated making Sean look like the biggest and most vicious dog in the yard, big enough to frighten Amazon, because they know he's coming.

Anyway, I believe we will strike for two days, not because we need to, I believe that contract is already finalized, but because UPS needs to take a small hit to put Sean on that pedestal to show Amazon what happens when your employees stand against you. On the second day UPS will meet with Sean and he'll have an emergency conference that we have a tentative agreement and that handshake deal for a legendary contract that is truly in our best interest, a contract that sends ripples through the rest of the country's lost working class.

We have the power, we always have, and it's high time we send the message to the corporations, we're done accepting their scraps.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the read. I'm gonna take a shower and find something to eat.
