Hey everyone, I wanted to throw a piece into the story bucket of UPS employment stories, so here's mine. Please share yours if you have them!
I've been with UPS for roughly five months. After the first 15 days, I've shown initiative and interest in becoming a part-time supervisor. I've spoken with my full-time supervisor a few times, and to my understanding, he was considering about few things first, that I haven't been long enough with the UPS. Second, he didn't want to disrupt my college education and hire someone for a supervisor position who would leave in 6 months. We spoke a few times about it, and I explained that the job is very convenient with my education, that I'm very interested in the position, and the pay pump would be beneficial. After about two conversations, my full-time supervisor was satisfied with my interest and offered me a position as soon as one opened. I took a week-long Hazardous material Audition class and became a HAZMAT auditor while waiting. I enjoyed the class and would've ranked my teacher "the best I've ever had." (no joke). As of right now, my paperwork is planned to be filed in 7-14 days. I have experience working in primary (unloading trailers), small sort, and the wall (loading trailers). When I was in small sort, I averaged 15 hours a week or about $230 before taxes and union. Recently, they moved me to the wall, and now I make 20 hours or about $320 before taxes and union. Once I become a supervisor, I'll be making $22.50 an hour instead of $15.33 and have =/ 25 hours per week instead of 15-21 hours per week.
