The SLC tell me I'm going to pay off my student loan this year and should 'take action' with a direct debit.

But what advantage is that to me if: 1) the loan repayment is taken pre-tax, and 2) I can get a refund on overpayment?
Any ideas? Google didn't turn up a lot.
