I have been with Barclays for years & I have always paid a monthly charge for the use of the account. At one point I was paying something like £15 a month for benefits that I would never use. I managed to downgrade to the basic Travel pack which gives me travel insurance & car breakdown cover. I have used the breakdown cover twice before & I only go on holiday once per year & rarely abroad although I would like to travel abroad more. I have a £500 a month overdraft that I occasionally go into but only when things happen that I didnt expect or I run out of money towards the end of the month so I use it probably twice per year. I was paying £10.50 a month for these privalages & I have just had a letter saying it is going up to £12.50 a month.
Is it this monthly charge worthwhile? Do i have any other options? Are they any free accounts or do they all charge a monthly amount?
