I officially graduated from my undergrad program in 2021. Back then I started to work in a small firm which mainly dealt with vanilla php and very basic stuff. I couldnt find a more challenging role which dealt with much more modern tools and technologies as my home country was going through absolute economic devastation. I even had to take up a second job as a teacher to make ends meet but still was barely making through.
In the midst of all this got an opportunity to go for higher studies to the UK with a little scholarship. Found a Business IT related program I was genuinely interested in and did my research to consider a change in career path to Business IT after finishing postgrad. basically spent 2023 - 2024 on this course program and have managed to finish with a distinction. However, unfortunately the UK job market is not doing so hot right now especially the tech industry. Business IT entry level roles are almost non-existent and the ones which do exist are asking the world in terms of requirements. Situation back home also has not improved to even consider moving back. The idea I had in mind was to get some experience in the UK and use that to move back into a position back home. but this seems to be in shambles.
Right now I am considering to move back into development but I am confused on how to move forward. I am even thinking whether companies would take someone who doesnt have much to show for? Basically I can work with PHP and basic frontend and SQL databases. I am overwhelmed on what kind of new stuff to learn. Should I go ahead to learn some JS frontend framework or no-sql DB cloud. I kind of feel like I am back to square one.
One of the main reasons I got into programming was being able to solve problems and create fun stuff. I guess i didnt think properly that this would eventually lead me to needing to solve corporate problems to earn a living. I am also 100% procrastinating without working on any new projects as It has been over a year since I have done any proper programming.
First question would be if whether I should pursue programming in this current climate and with my present handicaps.
Second question would be if that is the case then how should i proceed?
TLDR: couldnt get proper initial experience tried to shift career with the help of a postgrad study and failed. Wanting to know if its worth trying out programming again and if so what path to take considering currently present skills.
Also I am looking to get my PSW which ties in to my right to work
