Sometimes I wonder how day traders do what they do. Thankfully I am in this for the long haul - 10 years plus, so having most investments in red at the moment doesn't worry me too much (ask me again in a year's time). But it still isn't a pleasant feeling knowing you own less than you put in.
Yes, I'm very much the same.
I started investing again a couple of months ago. I'm very aware of the risks in the funds that I picked and am also in it for the long haul (3 to 5 years). I definitely know logically that I shouldn't sweat the bad days, months or even years where I'm in the red. I bought into the funds knowing I can wait out any fluctuations, or even a crash. I'm not in a hurry to sell.
That said, it's still sad to see that I'm in the red and it's hard to not feel like I'm losing - even though I know logically that I'm not. I was up 10% last month, and now I'm down. It's a bit disheartening, even though I was never planning to cash out until a few years time anyway.
I know it'll be fine in the long run but, as you say, a bit sad seeing my investments going down day by day. The 'right' thing to do is just to forget about it completely and just check in once every 6 months or so... but I just can't help myself haha.
