One thing I notice among students from LA and OC who travel by public transit is that many take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner. However, each individual Pacific Surfliner ride is ridiculously expensive, about 27 dollars from Union Station to Solana Beach even with the 15% discount code.

However, if you commute frequently between LA/OC and SD, you can actually save a lot of money by buying a 10-ride bundle pass! Union Station to Solana Beach goes from $27 a ride to $18.50 a ride, and Irvine to Solana Beach goes from $20 a ride to $12.10 a ride.
