Do first years get penalised for plagiarism?
Post Body

I was involved in an incident regarding plagiarism in an assignment. That assignment holds 45% weightage of the total grade for that module. I know that I did not copy from anybody. But there were some similarities between the code of a few students and mine. I attended a meeting with the plagiarism committee and explained to them that I did not copy or show someone my code intentionally. They said that at most they’ll mark me 0 for that assignment only. If that happens there’s a high chance that I might fail the module. Does anyone know if they’ll mark me 0, give me some marks or what? And are they lenient if something like this happens for the first time and to a first year?
