I was at the show on Friday, and while the song is beautiful and the effect of the tied together sheet rope hanging out of the screen was cool, the concept behind the performance felt a little undercooked. A giant balloon held down not by a string but with a rope made from tied together sheets? Bono kind of lazily walking the balloon rope around the stage? And then he talked about raising a child and coming home late at night with a balloon for them.
Is there something I’m not getting? Don’t get me wrong, it was…sweet and nice, but it didn’t seem to have as clear of a concept or message as some of the other effects and visuals for the show. Also, I saw videos of earlier performances where he invited a woman on stage to swing on it, but he didn’t do that on Friday. I’d be curious to know if that is a permanent change to the show or if they just didn’t do that part on the one night.
And it goes without saying, but the show was incredible overall.
I was at one of the 'woman swinging on it' shows, and it didn't make anymore sense to me then. I agree that in a mind blowing night overall, this one was a head scratcher. 🤔
