Of course, this campaign ends at the fight with Tiamat if they succeed. I plan on making this fight as grueling as I can and as realistically difficult as I can. I want them to feel like this fight really holds the world's fate in the balance. I want to make it a very close battle.
And at the end of it all, I want to make them lose it no matter what. Without them knowing of course. I have talked to one player and he is alright with it but we think it might be better if the rest of the players don't know. One of the player's characters will survive and then they will start a new campaign in the now Tiamat-controlled world. And their goal will be to take down Tiamat.
I want them to have to go to 5 different cities in order to get the 'keys' to open the gate to Tiamat's kingdom. Each city will be under the rule of a different chromatic dragon and themed accordingly. How would this feel to you as a player? Would it feel like an unsatisfying end to a story or would it feel cool to start in this kind of a world? I am curious about everyone's thoughts on this.
Edit: I have also been playing with the idea of making it a hard fight and if they manage to win it then they win it. But if they lose then end with this ending.
