So I'm a 20 year veteran just starting my Tyranid army (Hive Fleet Hecate) and while I'll probably play every detachment as it suits me my main focus is going to be Synaptic Nexus.
I've been doing a bit of research so I can plan out my purchases (already picked up the Tyranid half of Leviathan) but I'd love a breakdown of the best way to play this detachment, combos, best units and their numbers etc. My gaming group is casual/narrative play so I'm not looking to be super competitive and some units I want to include just because I like them.
So far some things I've picked up are Power of The Hive Mind on a Neurotyrant, Synaptic Control on a Hive Tyrant, Swarmlord and at least 1 Biovore are almost an auto include in any list.
So here are my questions! 1. If I'm running a Swarmlord would it be worth it to also run a Winged Hive Tyrant? 2. I'm thinking of running a couple Tyranid Primes with Gargoyles for some fast Synapse, objective grabbing and secondaries 3. How many Neurotyrants should I take? Is maxing 3 too much? 4. I'm going to run Neurolictors as they're one of my favorite Tyranid units, how many do people generally run? I'm thinking 2 5. Would it be worth it to include a Parasite of Mortrex to maybe trigger some battleshock for The Smothering Shadow? 6. Are Gaunts/Gants worth taking in this detachment and if so which and how many units of each? 7. I've heard that Neurogaunts aren't worth taking even though they're dirt cheap, is this true? 8. Are Haruspex, Mawlocs and Screamer Killers worth taking at all? It seems like they have a decent melee profile and the ability to proc TSS 9. I've seen that no one is really taking Tyrannofex, is it their points cost? 10. Would Venomthropes be redundant to protect my units? 11. How many Zoanthropes? 12. Von Ryan's Leapers? 13. Any other units that are really worth taking in this detachment?
Thanks ahead of time for any feedback/ideas!
