Supplements for elderly type-1 diabetic

My dad is a 72-year-old type-1 diabetic and he can't really control his sugar as of late. It's been all over the place, especially after exercising. It seems to have a ping pong effect of too high and then too low and then too high again.
Are there any supplements recommended to help regulate his blood sugar? He is currently on vitamin D, magnesium, krill oil and a general multivitamin. Any other recommendations or insights are truly appreciated
