I would like to take charge, but I'm not sure how

So basically, the next time I decide to get down to it I would like to try a bit more of a dominant role.
I've always been a bit more of a sub so I'm very curious about the other perspective is.
The main problem is that I'm kinda very shy and not sure how I should start "taking what I want".
Does anyone have any tips how to start and/or overcome this?
