I live in NYC. It should not be hard to find someone to perform a tubal removal here. I called four doctors, referred to me by my own doctor, and was told that all are “no longer” performing tubals. I went to the childfree friendly doctors list and it took me crying on the phone with the receptionist for her to actually go check that the doctor would still perform one. She did and I’m now scheduled, but if it was this hard for me now, it’s only gonna get harder. I believe my state also has a 30 day waiting period. If you are thinking about sterilization to protect yourself, DO NOT WAIT.

For background, I’m 35, divorced, no children. I use an IUD but with the repeal of Roe, there is a serious danger that a failed IUD could lead to an ectopic pregnancy that kills me. Living in a blue state is NOT enough protection. I could become septic while out of state. Republicans could enact a national ban. The impending repeal of Griswold means I might not be able to access birth control in the future. if I got pregnant and wanted to keep it, complications could kill me without the protection of Roe. I wouldn’t be able to terminate if something is wrong with the baby, and at this age that is a real risk. I need to make my choice now before someone makes it for me. If you are in the same sinking ship, do not wait to jump into the life raft.
