Giving thanks for my health, my sanity, but not necessarily my family . . .
Post Body

Wow.

Just wow.

2x, it's been a long past six months of my life. Needless to say, there's been an incredible amount of drama and mayhem in my life. I'll delete the bits related to my now ex-boyf, but talk about my mother. We all seem to have stories of our families and the hijinks they pull. I think mine are quite grand.

My mother has a drug problem which stems from her many back surgeries and her doctors giving her a seemingly endless supply of pills for the "pain". She weighs about 90lbs, weighed 135 when she was pregnant with me, so this is way under weight for her. She is disabled due to these surgeries, so sits at home all day long.

Fast forward to the present day: my mother is on her 3rd husband, they've been living with his parents, keeping these lovely elderly folks from the nursing home. I hear through the family grapevine that my mother and her husband are taking money from his dad, a proud WW2 veteran who believes the best in every single person. I hint around to my mom trying to pry information from her. It turns into our typical conversation of her starting a fight with me, calling me an ungrateful daughter for whatever the reason the fight was over this time.

I couldn't stand watching these poor elderly people being milked of all their money by anybody, so I filed an anonymous complaint to Adult Protective Services. After it went under investigation, it comes to light that my mother and her husband have taken nearly $150,000 from his parents. In six months. The money all went toward oxycontin, crack, and whatever other drugs they choose to do.

Some other wild events happened--Mr. WW2 Vet mysteriously falls outside his house, he has a heart attack. His wife moves in with her daughter. My mom's husband loses his job because he's been stealing things from his work. They break into the house of an ususpecting 90 year old lady and steal her checkbook, begin writing checks all over town.

The past couple of days, things are finally coming to a head. I was informed there are a couple of warrants out for the arrest of my mother and her husband. This morning, he tried to commit suicide by slicing his wrists.

I hear all this from about 5500 miles away because I'm in Alaska and they're in Virginia. I'm not sure how to feel about it all. Part of me feels guilty--my mother is going to probably spend many years in prison. I can't help but feel it's because of me.

I wonder if I had not called APS if Mr. WW2 vet and his wife would still be living in their home of 50 years instead of in a nursing home in an unfamiliar town.

I wonder if my mother's drug problem would have gotten the best of her anyway, and perhaps I helped to expedite the process.

I wonder.

TL;DR--my momma's a tramp.
