"It must be exciting times to be Asian"

Today, after mentioning how disturbed I was at the variety and severity of attacks over the weekend on Asian Americans, I was given the response, "yeah, it must be exciting times to be Asian".

Excuse me? Is being urinated on exciting? Is being verbally and physically berated exciting? Is being hit with a metal pipe exciting?

These attacks are happening with high frequency in public locations where unsuspecting people are just trying to live their daily lives. These attacks could happen to anyone, so I wish we could all have some empathy and stand together against the injustice.
