Sorry if this isn't the sub for this, I'm looking for female perspective on this situation.
I ring up groceries for a living. Today a girl (if I had to guess I'd say she was probably 14-15) and who I assume to be her father came through my line. I rang up her few items and gave the total. She tried to pay me with exact change but the man (who seemed to be in his 50s) basically stopped her and said "Let him just break the 5, stop wasting time."
The girl then just looked at me. Everything about the situation felt wrong. She looked scared. Like legit terrified. The man either didnt notice or didnt care.
I finished ringing up them up. While the transaction was going on the man just kept glancing between me and the girl. Everything about this dude just screamed "I'm a total POS".
I did and said nothing. I finished the transaction and they left. It's been eating me up all day. Should I have said something? What if that wasn't her father and she needed help? I know it's too late now but I can't help but feel like I did something wrong by not acting on my bad feelings.
But how do you say "Sir, I suspect you're treating your daughter(?) in an abusive manor"? What do we do when we feel so strongly that something just isn't right?
