Thought you all might like this little bit of light-hearted fun.
We're discussing school re-opening with our daughters, why certain things have to be done certain ways, and what to expect in the coming month(s). Well, the government regulations were part of the conversation, and this ensued:
Dad: "the governor recommended they close schools for in-person until the numbers go down again. Right now that means it's at least 2 months."
Mom: "the superintendent says it was actually a mandate, not a recommendation. So even if they wanted to risk it, they would not be allowed to."
Daughter 1: "why not a womandate? Why do they gotta call it a mandate?"
Daughter 2: "maybe because the governor is a man?"
Daughter 1: "but he's married! He shouldn't be dating!"
Mom and Dad seriously trying to hold it together: "mandate means rule, or law, not a guy going out with someone."
Daughter 1: "okay, so why not womandate?"
Mom: "well, mandar in Spanish means 'to send' so maybe it has a Latin root meaning 'to send' or 'to tell' and that's why it's mandate."
Daughter 1: "oh, okay, as long as it's not just because he has a penis."
ROFLMAO! And my husband doesn't think he's raising feminist kids. LOL!
