Anyone have experience with PMDD?
Post Body

NOTE: I am not asking for medical advice, just to be clear. :) I am asking for personal experiences.

I would say my late late 20s I started having serious reactions to my cycle. It takes anywhere from 40-50 days between periods, now that I'm heading into my mid 30s. It never really clicked for me, but the past year it became clear as day that I was having mood issues directly related to it. This past cycle was so absolutely miserable, my hormones were in complete control. Leading up to it there are 1-3 entire weeks of anxiety and feeling bad about myself and severe depression, including not wanting to be alive anymore(just ideation of not wanting to deal with life).

It is sooo so disruptive. When I'm having those swings, in my head I'm like holy WOW what is going on with me? This is so not normal, this is so not me at all. This most recent one, the day it started - after 2 weeks of it creeping up with random mild cramping - I felt like I was having pregnancy hormones. Every tiny thing was making me cry. Cute kitty? Sobbing. Someone mildly emotional in a video? Crying. Anything relatable, crying. It was an entire day of intense, uncontrollable emotions. I had to call out of work! Then the next day.... BACK TO NORMAL. Totally and utterly back to emotional norms.

I've never been on BC and I am a little hesitant because I already am diabetic with some preexisting anxiety/depression. And diabetes can really mess with your hormones anyways.

So my questions are, what kinds of experiences have you ladies had with PMDD?

What steps do you take to control yourself during these episodes?

Do you supplement with any psych meds? My psychiatrist suggested prozac during the intense times, but she also admitted she has 0 experience with patients with PMDD. Which seems improbable to me... and just a lack of will-to-education on her part. But I digress lol

Does diet effect anything for you? How often do you call out of work due to your cycle? Any and all experience/advice/detail will greatly help, and I can pass on the knowledge.

Thanks so much!!
