Shut up. Shut the fuck up.
I'm so goddamn tired of hearing this.
It's always directed at younger women and girls and said by people over the age of 50.
Just because you have been, are, and STILL actively continue to be in an absolutely miserable relationship, doesn't mean I have to waste my life in one and suffer, too.
"Back in the good days people didn't get divorced! They worked through it!" Yeah, because the poor, unfortunate women back then didn't have a choice.
I do.
Tell me, Bob and Linda, how the hell do you "work on" anything with someone who deliberately and continually ignores you and your needs? With someone who abuses you mentally and/or physically? With someone who doesn't see you as an equal or even as human? And why the hell would I volunteer my life away to stay in such a relationship, when there are approximately a billion other candidates in my preferred age range to choose from and indeed, I have a choice.
I too was conditioned to that mindset enough that I spent the last six months in a very unhealthy, abusive relationship against my better judgement. I regret every day of it.
The amount of "you'll work through it"s I've heard from family, friends and even strangers over the past half a year has been appalling.
But I don't think we will. I finally made my choice today and it was to fucking leave.

Edit: the Belchers came up — English isn't my first language so I thought it was a derivative of belching meaning a heckler or something alike. Turns out they're the couple from Bob's burgers! I've never watched the show, I had no idea haha. My apologies. Those were the first names that came to mind.
