Spoilers I guess, for the dozen or so of you that have watched Disney’s Strange World (like seriously, I watched on an empty theater, that’s pretty sad)
There is a scene, in which the characters must descend on a floating ship towards the “world at the center of the earth” near the very begging of the film. It’s the main named characters, accompanied by a ship crew of minor characters, one of which is piloting. They get attacked by wyvern-like creatures, one of which breaks through the window and pulls the pilot out, forcing one of the main characters to pilot the ship the rest of the film.
And the dude is gone. He is eaten on-screen. He is guano now. It was honestly shocking to see such a “unimportant character” death in a modern Disney cartoon film. It happens all the time in Marvel movies but No-one dies like that in Disney cartoons unless they’re a villain at the end, or its highly important to the plot. It honestly more shocking than the queer representation! (Which was unambiguous, but pretty minimal and inconsequential none the less).
It reminds me of the Atlantis movie, people where freaking dying left and right on that one too, and I would say that too was pretty out of left field for Disney too back then
Anyways. If you can, I would honestly recommend you check out the movie if you get the chance. I mean, Not recommending it because of the callous disregard for human life, of course, but I do think it’s a pretty film, it moves a good pace, and has a nice message and character interactions
And the worst part about his death is that not one single other character in the movie has any reaction to it..
He gets eaten, and no one notices or cares..
