“So you have a tradition in which you battle against each other for gym curriculum credits?”

Azul had just finished telling Aria the origin of Beanfest from Night Raven College. Aria was always interested in land stories, and the one of the giant and the golden harp never failed to amuse her. However, the most interesting part, according to her, was how Azul’s exploits earned him and his monster team the win in his second year of school.

“You were made team leader for a reason, Azul.”

“The role just came naturally to me, my dear,” he responded, fanning himself with his flat hand. “What team does anything successfully without direction?”

“What’s direction without a goal, Azul?” Jade interrupted.

“Isn’t the goal to win?” Aria questioned.

“Everyone wants to win,” Floyd replied. “Who doesn’t want to win?”

“It’s the purpose of winning that’s the question,” Jade added.

“Boys, are we really doing a deep dive of my story?” Azul annoyedly said. “That’s all she asked for.”

“I would assume that there was a prize for this school competition,” Aria chirped.

“Sure was. Extra gym class credits and recognition,” Floyd answered.

“Credits for a class that Azul was never good at.”

Aria’s interest was greater piqued.

“Not the day, boys,” warned Azul, “not the day.”

“Awwww, why not?” Floyd whined.

Aria patted Azul’s shoulder. “Oh, come on, Azul. If credit was the prize, that doesn’t mean it was only one person that won it, right?”

Jade smirked. “How sweet that you believe that Azul does things like this out of charity.”

“Yeah, Azululu was only lucky because he had Jack on his team.”

Azul’s cheeks flushed red.

“Who is that?” asked Aria.

“A freshman beastman who was the MVP of our school. If it wasn’t for Jack tagging the golden harp at the very last minute, Azul would’ve lost big time.”

Jade put his hand to his chest. “It was what the common folk say, a close call. I commend Azul for his leadership and foresight skills entirely.”

I need to find an octopus pot and fast, Azul thought.

“You gentlemen are teasing, but that’s not fair,” Aria scolded. She wrapped her arms around her lavender haired octopus lover and kissed his cheek. “It takes a lot of tactician skill to conquer a race without getting knocked out entirely. Azul did what he was best at doing, and he succeeded at doing so. That’s an accomplishment within itself.”

A sweet smile finally slithered onto Azul’s face. “Thank you, mi amor. My Angelfish, when you speak, you sing poetry.”

“Oh, now, you’re just trying to flatter me.” Aria began giggling and found it hard to stop, especially when the octo-mer began to caress her face.

Jade carefully pushed his drink glass further onto the table as he stood up from the sofa couch. “I think our job is done here, Floyd. I believe there’s some business we have to tend to.”

“Aww, but I wanna watch this…”

“Floyd…”

Jade’s strict tone was all the reason Floyd needed to get out of his chair and follow his brother out the drawing room, shutting the door quietly behind them.
