TWSTober Day 16: Fire-KalimXZara (OC)
Post Body

For this prompt, I decided to use what I wrote for Kalim and Zara's story that I'm working on. As I mentioned in my post about my OCs, Akliah's Signature Spell is Fists of the Sun. With this ability, she is a fire user, so she can have it expelled from her body just as long as there is heat for her to gain it from. So in this scene, Kalim and Zara are watching a dance performance that Jamil and Akilah choreographed for the entire family to see over a banquet dinner.

“Are your family dinners always outside in the garden?” asked Zara, her eyes rolling around the crowd, finally realizing how big it actually was.

“Nope. You just caught us on a good day,” Kalim replied.

“So it’s not normal to have the wealthy and the help comingle like this? Like it’s a masquerade?”

“It’s a special evening, so it’s important that we’re all together tonight. You’ll be sitting with me over here.” Kalim took Zara by the hand and pulled her towards the front of the picnic crowd. He threw out polite “excuse me”s as he inched his way past his relatives.

“What’s going on tonight?”

“You’ll see. Don’t be shy.” He gestured to the array of stews and meats at the display. “Take as much as you want.”

That sounded like a trap. A servant to possibly take more food than a wealthy merchant’s son. In what reality was that a statement to come out of a merchant's son's mouth?

“I highly recommend the turkey stew. Jamil makes that the most delicious meal of the bunch. Oh! I was the one that made the patties right there, in case you are interested.”

“Isn’t the proper dinner both a stew and the main course?”

“Zara?”

Zara took a bowl of stew and dipped two of the patties into that bowl to make carrying the dinner much easier. “Who am I to reject both of your offerings? I was taught that it was rude to refuse cooking when acknowledged. Tell me who else I should praise for their contribution.”

Kalim picked out the rest of the banquet foods for Zara to eat; however, he picked two of everything. He claimed that sharing was a more fun experience, especially for what they were about to see. The duo sat themselves on a blanket that Kalim had claimed for him and the new servant of the Asim estate.

Once everybody had sat down and settled themselves with the food they plucked from the banquet, the lights dimmed, and everyone’s focus was directed to the stage. Without warning, a puff of smoke exploded at center stage, and once the gray smog cleared into nothing, Jamil, in costume, took place. He did not say a word, but his actions were enough to show his welcome to the audience watching. He shot his right arm to the sky, and a gold scarf skyrocketed from his sleeve. Jamil caught the tail end of it. Each choreographed foot and hand move gave the scarf a swimming in the air motion. For a good moment, Jamil “played” with the golden scarf until it began glowing like the stars in the night sky. It was then that he rolled the scarf into a whip shape. Once tightly wrapped, he throw the front end of it towards center stage, where another pop of smoke exploded. That time Akilah took place of the smog.

It stunned Zara to see Akilah less covered in fabric, but the shock faded away once she saw how talented Akilah was at dancing like Jamil. While Jamil had a background in hip hop, Akilah was clearly trained in native belly dancing. Every sway she created with her hips captivated everyone in the crowd. Her feet melted into the floor as she slid across the stage. Jamil swung the scarf at Akilah again. She grabbed it. The female performer whipped the scarf in front of her to the audience with a crack. Then, she whipped it into the sky, where a blast of fire spat out.

The first shot had the audience “Oooh”ing. The second fire blast let everyone in the crowd “Aaaah!” but that was not all Akilah could do, Zara would soon learn.

Jamil offered his hand to Akilah. She took it as she lifted her left leg off the ground. Her right foot arched her into her toes. Jamil began to spin her as he ran in a circle. He completed the circle once and continued Akilah’s spinning by turning his run into a slide. His speed from his powerful push assisted her in keeping her balance. Completing the circle for the sixth time, Jamil let go and slid stage right, managing to stop himself from sliding off by standing himself back up and catching the stage beams. Akilah continued spinning and took advantage of it to point her fingers to the sky, setting off her fire sprits like fireworks to the open sky. The flames split away like petals of a flower. The last fire blast Akilah let out was to coat herself in the flame, which brought everyone to a gasping scream. When the fire dispersed from her body, her belly dance uniform had transformed into a gorgeous evening dress, veil and all. With that, the show had concluded.

The audience howling and applauded with utmost joy and excitement. Some of them even whistled.

Kalim’s enjoyment was the most convincing since he was the closest to Zara. “Oh, wasn’t that splendid, Zara? How was that for a show?”

It was a show indeed. She continued to clap and watch Jamil and Akilah bow to the audience as she thought, I had underestimated them. I am not alone after all.
