What better way to showcase my OP character than to actually give you a part of the first chapter of the fanfic I'm working on? So the book I'm working on for Mika herself is more so based towards the end of the school year, in which Mika, more than ever, is working on finding her memories and her way back home.

It had been a while since Mika dreamt of something that didnât start with her going through the mirror attached to the vanity. Instead of waking up pondering, she woke up staring into space like a lifeless doll. Once she snapped herself into reality, Mikaâs mind began to swirl with information she may have forgotten.
She knew the voice from the dream, but who did it belong to? Why was everything so much more bright than before?
A loud, grumbling snore made Mika lose her train of thought. There went Grim again, sleeping like a baby in its crib, oblivious to the world around them. Rather, he was like a cat who didnât care about my sleeping condition whatsoever. Now that she thought of it, that was exactly what Grim was. Mika checked my watch, and right on schedule, they should be getting ready for the day ahead. Well, they didnât have a class that morning in particular. However, she did have a tutoring session with Epel, and Mika didnât want to miss it. On a normal morning, the girl wouldâve dragged Grim out of bed, but for once, he could sleep in until the afternoon, a time that was way too late to be sleeping still. Mika already had a plan to make sure he wasnât going to sleep in too much.
As she trotted down the stairs, Mika fixed her uniformâs collar and bowtie. She quickly looked at herself through the wall mirror, and she hopped her away down to the first floor. She met her school shoes near the front door and exchanged them from her pair of stale brown house slippers.
âHey, Mika! Youâre up bright and early!â Phasing from the right side wall, a short ghost flew into the hallway.
Coming from behind was his pudgier friend. âWhatâs the hurry?â he asked. âExams arenât for a few weeks, ainât it?â
âI have a tutoring session this morning. Iâm meeting a friend at the library.â
âBleck! School stuff on your day off. Back in my day, if you had a day off, you wouldnât spend it studying.â
But itâs not studying really. She rolled my eyes as Mika headed out of the Ramshackle Dorm. The area surrounding it reminds me of a horror movie forest. Fortunately, she hadnât been kidnapped or killed yet compared to her other friends on campus, minus the killed part of the thought. Mika hoped that Epel would have some nice breakfast by the time she would get to the building. Ramshackle Dorm was the farthest away from pretty much everything on Night Raven College campus. Though she had a whole house to herself, along with her kitty cat roommate, there were cons.
There were many things that Mika didnât have, and there were pros and cons to it all.
The main campus had the most beautiful spring weather so far. The trees were perking up. The grass was blooming into the crisp apple green the students recognized from the start of the school year. Because the air was so cool-warm, and the sunlight graced the land so brightly, the students were actually out and about playing and enjoying the fresh air. Mika wished she was doing that, but she had a bigger mission to keep tabs on.
When she got to the libraryâs outside tables, since food and drink were not allowed indoors, Mika was greeted by Epel, his breakfast scones (which he had hidden from Vil), and loads of material to look through.
âThese were all the books I could find on the subject,â Epel Felmier said, piling a stack of five books onto the table. It was still quite a book of research, more than what Mika expected. She was always thankful that Epel went out of his way to helping her even if he wasnât going to get anything useful out of it, unlike Ace, Deuce, and Ruggie, who Mika wouldâve had to bribe them in order to get them to assist. Also, she doubted that Ace and Deuce were going to be so kind as to helping her with that mystery in particular.
âThis is going to be a lot to take in, but I greatly appreciate this, Epel. Iâll go over these tonight.â
âYouâre welcome, butâŚâ Epel fiddled with the color of his school shirt. âI still donât understand why you wanted to know this in particular.â
âIt doesnât hurt to be more educated.â It wasnât entirely a lie, but when she spewed the Headmageâs words out of her own mouth, it made it sound like Mika was hiding something that would go against any campus rules.
âWhat are you looking into?â Epel asked.
She looked down at my notebook and sighed heavily. Mika couldn't hide it forever, she supposed. âIâm trying to find out how to get home.â
His eyes sank. âHow close are you?â
âNowhere near where I want to be. Iâm not leaving tomorrow if thatâs what youâre worried about.â
âI know, and I wouldnât ask you to stay forever. Itâs justâŚI keep forgetting youâre not from here and all.â
Guilt seeped into her body quicker than a river current. âI didnât mean to make you sad, Epel. Please forgive me.â
He nodded. âOf course, I do. I wish you luck on your research. If you need anything, you can always tell me.â
âAnd I thank you for it. But I can tell that doesnât satisfy you.â
âI just canât imagine you not here for the rest of our years at Night Raven. Is that so wrong?â
Epel was not wrong for saying that, and Mika wished that she could relieve him of his disappointment. At the same time, she wasnât going to throw away what she worked so hard to achieve. Mika really didnât have the heart to tell anyone else about her research now. If the Headmage was not going to help her, Mika was going to find out where she came from herself.
