TWST Characters are Not All Villain as We Think They Are...
Post Body

Ok, I know the title is clickbaity and I'm sorry for that. I just have been thinking about this a lot lately, and I'm very sure that while the villain aspect of the game is done on purpose, making them not purely evil is also intentional.

I do think this concept is almost common knowledge at this point, whether we are playing the Japanese version of the English version of the game (as in where we are in the main story or how many events we have already.) With that in mind, I am fully aware that the concept of the game is that in this "Twisted Wonderland" the villains are considered heroes, but because this is Disney (may I remind you all), the lore of the game still includes elements from the Disney heroes we all know and love, too. Two examples of this are when in the Beanfest event, Crewel retells the Mickey and the Beanstalk story and in the Once Upon a Wish event he retells how Pinocchio came to life. (Another good example being in I think the Scalding Sands event in which Kalim tells a retelling of how Aladdin and Jasmine fell in love, which inspires lore in the game) Mind you all these are based on of tales from Disney heroes, not the villains. Yes, we do get some nice villain tidbits, too, in the chats, but I just find it funny that a lot of the lore in this world is still reliant on the original Disney heroes. With that said, this post is to highlight what elements of the Disney heroes that are instilled in our student characters. (I'm not doing the professors because we don't know too much about them to say anything. Also, some of them are just plain villain reincarnates.)

My rules I made for this post is to try to find the closest hero traits for each of the characters, and they had to be from the movie the original villain was from. Jack is the only exception to this rule because his inspiration was not even from the Lion King in the first place.

Riddle: Out of all the characters entirely based off of the villains that their houses represent, I think Riddle is the closest to his villain role model (being the Queen of Hearts) since he is hellbound on rules and getting what he wants. I admit that it was hard for me to find any hero traits for him since he's so tied to the Queen of Hearts, but then I remembered something. He's rule-following ways are bound by the Queendom of Roses's (his homeland's) logic. When Alice goes through Wonderland in the movie (and the original book), she is heavily reliant on her own land's logic, so it's hard to understand how Wonderland works. Riddle is far from home and even though his dorm is based off of the rules of the Queendom of Roses, he needs to understand that not everyone operates in that way, so he should take a chill pill for a couple of split moments. Also, his crying storm at the end of Chapter 1 completely reminds me of the Alice getting lost in the woods scene from the movie when Alice has no idea what to do anymore. In a way, Chapter 1 was absolutely genius.

Ace: I also believe that Ace is an extension of Alice. He's the sneaky side of her and when needed, he's the voice of reason. During the Ghost Bride event, he's the only person who tells the truth about the curse at hand and that the only people who are continuing to cause this event to happen are the Bride's attendants.

Deuce: Another extension of Alice, but Deuce has both Alice's short temper and compassionate parts of her personality. His short temper has gotten him into trouble on multiple occasions just like Alice in the film.

Trey: It's clear that Trey is supposed to be like Alice's older sister from the movie. He tries to keep everyone in line so that they don't get into trouble and that they are learning properly, but at the same time, he seems to be over it too lol. I know people will say that he's supposed to be the King of Hearts, but I don't really see that. Trey has more of a grounding than the King of Hearts did, so I don't think that's the correct comparison.

Cater: I don't count these two characters as villains at all, but Cater completely reminds me of the Mad Hatter and the March Hare combined into one person. His focus is on the wrong things most of the time and he seems to be more carefree than the other characters from the movie.

Leona: I know what you're thinking. Leona...have any bit of Simba in him? Please! Ok, please hear me out. Yes, a Simba does already exist in this world, but there is one thing that Leona and Simba both possibly have...maybe two things. One, they tend to both hold onto the past longer than they should. The second thing is just a theory, but it possibly connects to the first one. They both lost their fathers. If Leona's brother, Falena, is already king, that would mean that their father had passed away a few years ago (sometime recent?). If Leona is the black sheep amongst the palace staff, I'm pretty sure that he had some solace somewhere. I don't know much about the mother since I don't see her in the picture anywhere (possibly not yet or at all, but who knows?), but I would think that his father probably gave Leona the best attention or else Leona would not have the intelligence that he does. When his father passed away and Falena became king, Leona's black sheepness got worse, so that's all he can think about. Just like how Simba felt like the bad guy when his own father was killed. For Leona it's going to be hard to move on from the past, but it's thanks to his new friends he can try.

Ruggie: If he has a Pumba piggie bank in his room, I think the closest relation to a hero for Ruggie is Timon. The both of them are pretty conceited, and they stick by the lion character for pretty much clout-sake.

Jack: I know this has been some people's headcannons but I'm just gonna be forward with you all. He's the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Yes, he's a wolf beastman, but he has the Beast's entire tsundere personality down to the bare bones. He's a loner, but if someone he cares about is in danger, he will spring immediately into action.

Azul: I think the fact that Azul prefers land to water rings to me that Azul is not only half Ursula, but also half Ariel. Based on his experience in the sea, he feels like he has more of a belonging on land. Though is land dreams are more selfish than Ariel's, the dream on its own is still the same.

Jade: If Azul is Ariel, Jade is most likely closest to Sebastian. Though he doesn't hound Azul all of the time, he's the most sensible of the two Ariel sidekicks.

Floyd: If Jade is Sebastian, Floyd is Flounder, the most childlike of the bunch; although, Floyd is definitely more villain than hero.

*Honestly though, the Octo trio in my eyes are the villainized versions of the Three Caballeros. It's very clear that Azul is Donald, Jade is Jose, and Floyd is Panchito based on their friendship dynamic.

Kalim: Yes, we all know he's based off of the Sultan, who is Jasmine's father in the movie, but I believer there's a lot more than that. Based on his high generosity levels and thirst for adventure, he's clearly Aladdin.

Jamil: Jamil is as close to Jafar as we can get. However, in the terms of wishing to be free from responsibility and to do whatever he wants by himself, he has Jasmine personality in him.

Vil: For the first time in this post, I was stumped of who I could use as heroic traits for Vil because he barely has any...at least for the villain he's supposed to represent (the Evil Queen) in the movie that she's from. Maybe that's because I hate Vil as a character and a human being, but that's just me. Maybe...Grumpy I guess, but at least Grumpy cares about Snow White. Vil doesn't care about anyone but himself...and maybe Rook to an extent. I'm really sorry, ya'll, but I can't think of anything.

Rook: The huntsman is not a hero or a villain in this case, despite that's who Rook is supposed to be. Even though the dwarfs do exist in this world, Rook definitely resembles Bashful and Happy in a combo milkshake.

Epel: Yes, a Snow White reincarnate does exist in Neige, but when I first saw Epel for the first time, I saw a bit of Snow White in him, too. However, the Snow Whiteness of this character is more-so forced rather than natural. He has the feminine features...that's it. He does have Grumpy's roughness around the edges though, so I'll give Epel two points in this regard.

Idia: Out of all the villains to be the staple for, I think Idia is the farthest away from the Seven (Hades, he's supposed to be). The only things resembling Hades is that his family literally rules the Underworld and Idia's hair changes color...plus it's fire...also that he's only confident when he's doing something that he really likes. Well, actually, let's talk about the really like thing for a second. Out of everything in the world, Idia loves anime and video games. It's kinda clear why he'd be interested in those. He can be the hero of his own story, regardless of how fictional these worlds are. In the Hercules movie, Hercules, before discovering he's the son of Zeus, wanted to do something great so that people would stop calling him a freak due to his unusual super strength. Idia gets called a freak constantly by his peers due to him being a closeted NEET. Oh, for Idia to get a redemption arc for once in his life! Oh, and if you guys read the Once Upon a Wish event, his snarkiness levels are through the roof, so he has a bit of Meg in there, too.

Ortho: Am I going to say that Ortho is a sidekick version of Hercules? Abso-fucking-lutely, and I love it! I would also think Pegasus, too, because he flies and he gets super defensive for Idia.

Malleus: I think the only Maleficent I can compare him to is the version from the live action movie played by Angelina Jolie. In the live action movie, she's not the hero, but she's not completely a villain either. In my opinion, that movie only exists because Disney couldn't get the rights to Wicked, so they wanted to remake that story so bad. Anyway, I wouldn't say he has any other character traits except Jolie Maleficent, so...I'm going with that.

Silver: I think it's been confirmed by everyone that Silver is supposed to be Princess Aurora. Like come on...

Lilia: Hey might be based off of Maleficent's crow, but in all reality, he's the fairies. Like, did y'all not see Silver's story in the cooking challenge? Or the fact that Silver calls him Father all the time?

Sebek: Sebek is obviously supposed to be one of Maleficent's minions because well...duh. The only hero trait I can come up with is that he's probably stubborn like Prince Philip, but otherwise, he's the most villain out of all the characters. (I could be very wrong because I have not seen Sleeping Beauty in like a million years since I was a child, so I don't remember what the personalities of all the characters are.)

Bonus: Grim: He's Mushu from Mulan 2, and yes, that should be taken as an insult to the highest degree because Mulan 2 murdered the best sidekick character in all of Disney history.
